Over 65? Your In-Home Care Options in South Australia
By the Aureonrise team 5 min read

One of the most common questions we hear from Adelaide families: "Mum is over 65 — can she get the NDIS?" Generally, no: the NDIS is for people who apply before turning 65. But that doesn't mean going without support. South Australians over 65 have solid options.
Government-subsidised aged care at home
The Australian Government subsidises in-home aged care through the Support at Home program. Services range from help with cleaning and shopping through to personal care, nursing and allied health. Start with an assessment — register through My Aged Care (myagedcare.gov.au or 1800 200 422) and an assessor will visit to discuss your needs.
Private in-home care
If you're waiting for a government package, need more hours than your package funds, or simply prefer to arrange care directly, private in-home care fills the gap. You choose the services, schedule and worker — no assessment required. Aureonrise provides private personal care, domestic help, community access and nursing across Adelaide.
If you're already an NDIS participant turning 65
Good news: you can choose to stay with the NDIS after you turn 65, or move to the aged care system. Compare what each would fund for your situation before deciding — once you leave the NDIS for permanent residential aged care, you generally can't return.
